Add News

Constituency Profile:

The Conservatives' David Bevan was beaten by Estelle Morris, the Labour representative, in 1992 by 162 votes. She continued to hold the seat until standing down before the 2005 general election, at which time the seat was won by the Liberal Democrats candidate John Hemming with a majority of 2,672.

The 2010 election has seen changes to the constituency boundary, with the seat gaining part-wards from Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath (Acocks Green and South Yardley) and also Birmingham Hodge Hill (Stechford and Yardley North).

The inner-city characteristics found in many of Birmingham's other constituencies are not evident in the Birmingham Yardley suburban area.

Yardley's largest area of employment is public administration, education and health. Manufacturing and construction are also important.

The Yardley comstituency now boasts 26 primary schools, five secondary schools and one higher education provider.
