Unfortunately, hit music station Galaxy Birmingham radio under the Galaxy name, officially no longer exits. The station originally commenced broadcasting under the heading of Choice FM Birmingham in January 1995 after taking over the broadcasting licence of Buzz FM. In 1999 Choice was rebranded as Galaxy following its takeover by Chrysalis. In June 2007 Galaxy was sold to Global Radio in a £170 million deal, which also saw the takeover of Heart, The Arrow and LBC.
The station was re-launched as 102.2 Capital FM on January 3, 2011following the merger of Global Radio’s Galaxy and Hit Music networks. The local programming now consists of weekday breakfast and drive time shows, weekend morning shows plus music news and regular local, UK and world news bulletins throughout the day, plus all the latest Galaxy sports news. There is also ongoing information associated with the local traffic and transport problems. The local weather Birmingham can expect is also identified.
The Capital radio station broadcasts country wide from Leicester Square, London with local variation additions from cities in the UK like, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Huddersfield, Manchester, Southampton, Portsmouth, Sheffield, Manchester, North East, etc.
Whilst Galaxy still remains on the list of radio stations available, it is actually identified as Capital when the radio is tuned to the still identified headed channel of Galaxy.
Galaxy Birmingham network presenter Sacha Brooks was redeployed as presenter of drive-time and a weekly urban music programme, which now airs across the network on Sunday mornings.
The network is probably the No 1 hit music station for radio in Birmingham and provides, as do many other broadcasting stations, the normal weekly hit music and play list, including the UK top 10 and top 40 chart information, reviews, the availability of various jobs through the Capital advertising network for those looking for either employment or perhaps a change of employment. For those wishing to make a career in broadcasting and at whatever level, perhaps radio Galaxy or the now named Capital FM Birmingham could be your first step on the ladder of success?
Most of the shows are broadcast live. The broadcasting frequency is as it is in the station name 102.2 on the FM waveband. The programmes are also available online and either way you can listen live to the programme of your choice.
There are also various competitions and quizzes for listener participation. As all commercial radio stations, and although frowned upon by many station listeners because of the length of time involved, regular advertising is also on offer for use by the numerous local Birmingham businesses, colleges, sports clubs, retail stores, etc.
With internet availability virtually nationwide the choice for listening to Galaxy FM Birmingham can be by the online free radio station or listen to Capital live in the car, on a portable radio or even household radios in Birmingham.
For those of you who do not own a radio, you have undoubtedly been missing out on a great amount of free entertainment. You may therefore wish to consider purchasing a mobile audio device which can be found at portable radios shopping in Birmingham or portable audio shopping in Birmingham.
